CARE

DAILY CARE

  • Fluff with Intention - A gentle daily fluff restores loft, ensuring your pillow stays sumptuously supportive.
  • Dress in Layers of Care - Always use a pillowcase and protector. Launder both frequently, weekly is ideal for a fresh sleep experience.
  • Mindful Inspection – To know when it’s time to wash, fold your pillow in half. If it lingers folded or unfolds slowly, it deserves a proper clean

CLEANING & MAINTENANCE
WASHING

  1. Prepare with Care - Mend any small tears before laundering to preserve the integrity of the fill.
  2. Gentle Cleansing - Wash with a mild, fragrance-free detergent to protect the down’s natural integrity.
  3. Balanced Load - Launder two pillows at a time in a front-loading machine, using warm to hot water.
  4. Pure Rinse - Follow with an additional wash and rinse cycle, free of detergent, to ensure purity and softness.

DRYING

  1. Gradual Drying - Begin on medium heat, then finish on low; full dryness may require 2–3 cycles.
  2. Restored Loft - Place dryer or new tennis balls inside to gently fluff and prevent clumping. Pause to shake out larger clusters if needed.
  3. Final Assurance - Check carefully for any cool or damp spots; complete dryness is essential to protect against mildew and preserve lasting luxury.

Pillow Talk: The Famed Eiderdown Pillow

There are luxuries, and then there is eiderdown. Long before thread counts and memory foam entered the bedroom conversation, a small, unassuming seabird nesting along the cold coastlines of the North Atlantic was quietly producing what many consider the finest insulating material on Earth. The eider duck’s down, harvested with extraordinary care from its own nest, has been coveted by Scandinavian royalty, Arctic explorers, and discerning sleepers for centuries. Today, the eiderdown pillow brings this storied material to the modern bedroom, offering a sleep experience that is, by any measure, extraordinary.

What Is Eiderdown?

Eiderdown is the soft underfeather the common eider duck uses to line her nest and keep her eggs warm. What sets it apart is a uniquely interlocking microstructure: each tiny filament hooks together with its neighbors, creating a three-dimensional cluster that traps air with remarkable efficiency while remaining feather-light. A handful can loft to fill a space many times its volume, compress completely, and spring back without losing structure.

No other fill material replicates this. Goose down, the industry benchmark achieves impressive loft but lacks eiderdown's clustering ability. The result is a pillow that delivers warmth without weight, softness without stuffiness, and a cradling quality that adjusts naturally to your head and neck throughout the night.

Sustainable Harvest Along the St. Lawrence River

The DownHaus Eiderdown Pillow sources its fill from protected eider habitats along the St. Lawrence River, one of the few regions outside of Iceland and Norway where sustainable eiderdown harvesting has taken root. Following the same principles as traditional Icelandic eider farming, collection occurs only after nesting season has fully concluded and ducklings have safely departed. No birds are harmed or disturbed during this process. The down is gathered by hand from vacant nests, cleaned, and carefully processed to preserve the delicate interlocking structure that gives it its legendary loft. Our Canadian Eiderdown is hand-collected from protected habitats along the St. Lawrence River in Quebec, sourced with care for both the birds and their environment. A portion of every purchase supports these wildlife sanctuaries helping preserve the natural treasure at the heart of every DownHaus pillow.

This commitment to sustainability is not merely a marketing point as it is the only way eiderdown can exist as a material at all. The eider duck cannot be farmed commercially. It will not nest in captivity or in conditions it finds unsuitable. Protecting its habitat is a prerequisite for protecting the supply, which means every DownHaus pillow is, in a very real sense, a product of conservation as much as craftsmanship.

Who Is the Eiderdown Pillow Good For?

The DownHaus Eiderdown Pillow is ideally suited to sleepers who prioritize quality above all else, those who understand that the pillow beneath your head is among the most impactful wellness investments you can make. It is particularly well-suited to side and back sleepers who appreciate a fill that yields gently under pressure while maintaining consistent support. The pillow’s natural breathability makes it an excellent choice for those who tend to sleep warm, as eiderdown regulates temperature far more effectively than synthetic fills or even standard down alternatives.

An eiderdown pillow is also the right choice for the committed minimalist who buys fewer things but insists they be the very best. It is, ultimately, the anti-fast-furniture: a single, exceptional object designed to be used, treasured, and kept for a lifetime.
